Volunteers busy on 26 & 27 March, 2011
The weekend of March 26th and 27th saw a busy work crew moving the social dock to get it out of the way before the visitor's centre starts moving in. They also had to lift a series of dock boards so that the electrical contractor can see what must be done as part of the upgrading in conjunction with the visitor's centre.
Meanwhile, another crew was hard at work dry walling two storage rooms upstairs behind Dave's office. One of these will be used by Shirley Blackstaff and her museum crew, the other by Dave Ehrismann for our rapidly expanding office needs.
Thank you to Kathy Arnett for the delicious sea food chowder lunch. We know that Mark Mercer, Sonny Hockey, Murray Weisshaar, Dave Folk, Don Hay, Jay Page, Annette Douglas, Harold Moy, Tony Lawrence, and Ernie Amos appreciated the lunch as much as LMS appreciates their work.

Maritime Society Hosts Harry Erickson's Book Launch.
The launch of Harry Erickson's Book, Hills to Harbour, A British Columbia Forest Industry Story held February 27, 2010, Saturday afternoon, (in the old Crown
Zellerbach Main Workshop, now the Ladysmith Maritime Society Office/Conference Room) was a huge success. Harry and Margaret Erickson and family were there, greeting over 150 visitors.
Harry was kept busy chatting with friends and signing copies of his new book. People from Ladysmith, many places on Vancouver Island and the Mainland lined up to say "Hello" to Harry and purchase
copies of his book. The atmosphere was festive, friendly and welcoming. The room decorated with historic photographs and the slide show presentation based on Harry's life in the industry, created an opportunity for people to remember the old days.
Those present were appreciative of Harry's efforts to record and share local history. The educational goal to place Hills to Harbour into schools was supported that day with generous donations.
The family provided a wonderful variety of refreshments which were enjoyed by everyone.
Thank-you very much to those who helped with the Book Launch. We appreciate your support of history and this excellent event.
To purchase a copy of the book: phone Shirley Blackstaff at 250-245-3075 or the Ladysmith Maritime Society at 250-245-0109.
